VIDEO: Charles Woodson Catches Incomplete Pass on Bills Sideline and Takes off Running
By Jerry Trotta
The NFL was crushed when legendary defensive back Charles Woodson decided to call it quits back in 2015 after 18 seasons of sheer excellence. The Michigan star was a stud as soon as he entered the league in 1998, winning the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. He was later named to nine Pro Bowls, three All-Pro teams, and won a DPOY Award. In other words, Woodson was a beast, so you can understand why instincts took over when he decided to run back an errant pass that he caught on the sidelines while working the Browns-Bills game this past Sunday.
Even in retirement, the 43-year-old hasn't missed a beat.
Woodson was instinctively ready to take the pigskin to the house, as he explained to Ed Reed on the sideline. "I didn't know what to do," he told Reed. "I do know how to get to that end zone though."
If this brief clip doesn't perfectly summarize why Woodson was one of the most feared defensive backs of his time, then nothing does.
Everybody knew he possessed raw talent but his competitive nature was clearly what set him apart from the rest. Hell, he doesn't even need to be in the league to wind up with the football in his hands.
