Chase Daniel Likely to Start for Bears in London vs Raiders
By Michael Luciano
After suffering a nasty shoulder injury against the Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky will be out for a while, though it seems he'll avoid surgery. Naturally, the third-year signal caller won't suit up for Chicago's strenuous trip to London to tussle with the Oakland Raiders.
This leaves backup Chase Daniel, who filled in for an injured Trubisky last year and led the Bears to a win last week, to nab the international assignment.
After signing with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent following a prolific career at Missouri, Daniel bounced around the league as a backup or third-string quarterback for seven years, with last year being his only extended action as a starter.
Daniel, who has only started four games in his career up until this point, threw for 515 yards and three touchdowns in two starts last season, and went 22-for-30 for 195 yards in the win over the Vikings last week.
Daniel might be the king of finessing teams out of money as a backup, but he's proven he can win games at this level. Jon Gruden's patchwork defense isn't the '85 Bears, so Daniel could have another good game this week.
