The Chicago Bears are not messing around this offseason.

General manager Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy have been aggressive on multiple fronts, most notably with the acquisition of Nick Foles in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and now they're trimming fat off the roster.

The Bears are surprisingly releasing Eagles Super Bowl hero Trey Burton, whom the Bears signed to a four-year, $32 million contract before the 2018 season. It's safe to say that was a bad idea, considering Burton has appeared in just 24 games over the past two years and hauled in only 68 receptions for 653 yards and six touchdowns.

The move frees up just barely over $1 million for the Bears.

But there's good news!

The Bears reached an agreement on a one-year deal with former Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Jason Spriggs, who spent the entirety of the 2019 season on injured reserve with back and elbow injuries. He was released by the the Pack shortly after landing on IR.

Back in 2016, Green Bay traded up to draft Spriggs in the second round at No. 48 overall. However, the move didn't pan out, as the Indiana product appeared in just 36 games in three seasons with the franchise. Of those contests, he started only nine of them.

With all of that being said, taking a flyer on Spriggs isn't a terrible move by Chicago. At 25 years old, there's still plenty of time for him to turn his career around. He'll also come at a bargain.

If you ask us, the best-case scenario is that Spriggs makes the 53-man roster and proves that he's healthy and ready to stick it to his former team. If he flops, the Bears would lose hardly any money. We can expect he'll be earning the dough leftover in Burton's deal.

Expect a new-look Bears roster in 2020, Chicago fans.
