4 Most Outrageous Decisions by the GarPax Regime During Reign With Chicago Bulls

While teams like the New York Knicks are opting against pursuing their next head coach during the coronavirus pandemic, the Chicago Bulls are just getting started. Reports on Friday indicate that the Bulls will begin their search for a new top executive to run the team, while moving on from Executive Vice President John Paxson and general manager Gar Forman.

The Bulls faithful needed this sort of news, considering the amount of outrageous decisions this pair has made. Here are four that stick out as the worst.

4. Trading Away Lamarcus Aldridge

This move technically happened before Foreman joined the organization, but we're going to lump it in anyway. John Paxson looked to have made the genius move with selecting Lamarcus Aldridge with the second overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft. Yet, he traded him to the Portland Trail Blazers mere minutes later. For who? Tyrus Thomas and Viktor Khryapa. That return, shockingly, failed to produce. Meanwhile, Aldridge turned into one of the better power forwards of this generation. Way to go, John.

3. Signing Dwyane Wade

In 2016, the Bulls needed to get younger alongside star Jimmy Butler. Instead, Forman and Paxson opted to give declining veteran Dwyane Wade a two-year, $47 million contract. The move turned out to be a disaster, as Wade was critical of his younger colleagues' effort, thus creating a volatile locker room. One year later, the Bulls bought out Wade. While it was initially viewed as a great homecoming story for Wade, the results turned out to be one of the worst in the GarPax era.

2. Trading up for Doug McDermott

With a dysfunctional front office, you best believe they royally screwed up an NBA Draft during their time in power. That happened in 2014, when the Bulls held the 16th and 19th overall picks, but were in love with Doug McDermott. So much, in fact, that they traded both picks to the Denver Nuggets to select him at the No. 11 spot. McDermott never panned out in the Windy City, while the two players that the Nuggets selected in Gary Harris and Jusuf Nurkic have had much better careers.

1. The Jimmy Butler Trade

This trade was shocking, to say the least. Jimmy Butler emerged as the new face of the franchise for the Bulls once Derrick Rose declined due to injuries. Yet, he was unhappy with the direction of the team. Instead of trying to appease him, Paxson and Forman opted to trade him to the Minnesota TimberWolves in exchange for Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn and the seventh overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, which turned into Lauri Markkanen. Even though both players showed promise, they couldn't replicate the production of Butler. LaVine, Dunn and Markkanen all dealt with numerous injuries/health issues. With a new regime, all three could be as good as gone by the start of next season.
