The Kansas City Chiefs knew that Damien Williams by himself is simply not enough to carry the load in the backfield for another full season, so they decided to pilfer a quality scatback from a division rival.

The Chiefs agreed to terms with former Raiders running back DeAndre Washington, who piled up 1,735 total yards in four years in Oakland.

Even with the signing of Washington, Kansas City is still expected to look for a bell cow running back in the first or second round of the 2020 Draft. No matter what they do at that position, Washington is a solid backup.

A former fifth-round pick out of Texas Tech, Washington had his most productive season since his rookie year in 2019. Backing up Josh Jacobs, Washington ran for 387 yards and three touchdowns while catching 36 passes for 292 yards, A smaller back, Washington is slippery and elusive in the open field, a trait that Andy Reid values in his running backs.

Eric Bieniemy's offense has made Super Bowl MVPs out of castoffs like Williams, and Washington could be in for a similar production bump if he is given consistent touches next year, alongside his old college teammate Patrick Mahomes. Could this spell the end of D'Andre Swift rumors at the end of the first round?
