Chiefs Blew it by Not Signing Chris Harris Jr. in Free Agency
By Michael Luciano
The Kansas City Chiefs lost a major piece of their secondary when slot cornerback Kendall Fuller returned to the Washington Redskins in free agency. A big-name potential replacement has eschewed Kansas City in favor of the Los Angeles Chargers.
Former Denver Broncos cornerback Chris Harris chose to head down to Los Angeles, leaving the Chiefs scrambling for a cornerback.
Harris joins the Chargers after spending nine seasons in Denver, intercepting 20 passes while establishing himself as one of the best slot corners in the league.
Harris seemed like he was strongly considering the Chiefs because of his relationship with Kansas City defensive back Tyrann Mathieu. He even went so far as to request Mathieu's "people" get in touch with him. Unfortunately, Kansas City missed out, and he's headed to a division rival.
Harris is also joining a secondary in Los Angeles that could easily become one of the best in all of football thanks to the presence of Casey Hayward and Derwin James. That could make things tough for Patrick Mahomes and the offense to put up the gaudy numbers they normally put up against Gus Bradley's unit.
