Chris Jones Doesn't Sound too Thrilled About Being Franchised-Tagged by Chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs fans around the country can rejoice now that defensive tackle Chris Jones is officially back for 2020 after the team decided to use the franchise tag on the former Mississippi State interior pass rusher.

While Jones will be back with the Super Bowl champs next season, he doesn't sound too happy about the fact he couldn't test the open market.

"After four years, you do everything the right way...you expect to be rewarded," Jones said. "So you know when you’re hit with the franchise tag, it can go different ways. You can feel like they’re not valuing you or they’re not valuing what you bring to the table."

Jones has recorded 24.5 sacks in 29 games over the last two years, including nine in just 12 regular season games this past season.

Arguably the best individual defensive player on a revamped Chiefs defense that held strong and helped Kansas City take home the Lombardi Trophy, Jones will likely price himself out of Kansas City's range on the open market given how they're expected to give Patrick Mahomes an absurd, yet very well-deserved, contract extension.

Jones likes playing in Kansas City, and the Chiefs certainly love his presence on the defensive line. However, the 25-year-old has made no bones about the fact he wants to get paid like the elite defensive tackle that he is, and things could get uncomfortable if the team doesn't manage to work out an extension with him before the July deadline.
