This Chiefs-Colts Trade for Malik Hooker Would Eliminate Kansas City's Only Potential Weakness
By Mark Powell
The Colts made a bold move last week in declining Malik Hooker's fifth-year option, thus signaling that his time might be up in Indianapolis following this campaign.
Hooker is intriguing trade bait, as well, for teams in need of secondary help. Enter the Kansas City Chiefs, who aside from Tyrann Mathieu, could use another body on the back end.
Hooker's injury issues are well documented, but that shouldn't scare teams away from what's likely to be a cheap price tag for his services. If not now, the trade deadline will present a great opportunity for opposing teams to pull the former Ohio State product from the Colts' clutches, as they'll be more inclined to get something from him while they still can.
His $2 million cap hit is modest enough to entice a potential trade suitor as well. Despite being on the final year of his deal, a third or fourth-round pick is attainable for the Colts, especially if they strike a trade before the start of the regular season.
For the Chiefs, that mid-round compensation remains a small price to pay for a safety with Pro Bowl potential. Imagining he and Mathieu in same defensive backfield is a scary sight for AFC West quarterbacks.
