Chiefs Defense Will Continue to Hold the Team Back if They Don't Fix This One Big Issue

The Kansas City Chiefs clearly haven't played their best football over the last couple weeks. They suffered a Week 5 loss to the Colts, and then failed to defend their home field again against the Texans last Sunday.
Offense hasn't been the issue with the Chiefs, but rather trying to stop the other team from scoring. The main weakness looks to be with their run defense.
The #Chiefs are allowing 5.6 ypc on 1st down. That’s the worst mark in the NFL per #NextGenStats. I think teams have figured this out as over the last 4 weeks, teams have run the ball 84 times on first down vs KC. Again, the most in the NFL.

Kansas City is allowing the most yards per first down of any team in the league right now, and opposing offenses are running on their weak defense at will. Just watch Deshaun Watson completely toy with them.

Teams having consistent success running also hurts the Chiefs because a lot of time is taken off the clock, giving Patrick Mahomes and the offense less time to work.

Offensive plays
Chiefs (35)
Opponents (79)
Time of possession
Chiefs (13:23)
Opponents (46:37)
Playing keepaway.
Kansas City had similar problems last season, causing them to fire defensive coordinator Bob Sutton. But now it looks like the issue may be even worse. The front office will need to act fast if they want to truly contend for a Super Bowl this year.
