Chiefs Narrowly Missing Out on Andrus Peat Proves They're Not Able to Go Far Enough in Free Agency

Despite being Super Bowl Champions, Kansas City is in a tough spot. With a Patrick Mahomes deal on the horizon that's certain to break records, they'll have to let players walk, and their needs are starting to be neglected in free agency.

After missing out on cornerback Chris Harris, the Chiefs have lost out again by missing an opportunity to sign New Orleans Saints guard Andrus Peat.

The Saints let Peat shop around, and the Chiefs apparently didn't have a good enough offer to bring him on board.

It's especially concerning after the Chiefs let go of Stefen Wisniewski, who was a starter during their Super Bowl run after Andrew Wylie was injured in Week 16. While Peat is more than a depth piece, this is just another example in a list that's sure to stretch quite long, of necessary sacrifices on Kansas City's part.

While free agency continues, the Chiefs seem more and more reluctant to pay for new players. It appears they're more concerned with maintaining enough cap space to keep the talent they have (and rightfully so). They'll have to hope maintaining the men in the room is enough to keep the contention window open as long as they'd like it to be.
