Chiefs Offensive Coordinator Eric Bieniemy Emerges as Latest Target in Browns Head Coaching Search
With the Freddie Kitchens era in Cleveland coming to a merciful end, the Browns will now look to hire their eighth different head coach in the last decade.
With the offensive struggles that came with Kitchens' lone season in Cleveland in the top job, the team has been linked to several offensive-minded coaches like Baylor's Matt Rhule (who declined their request to be interviewed, ouch!) and, more recently, Chief's offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.
Bieniemy, a former NFL running back, took over as offensive coordinator in KC following Matt Nagy's departure for Chicago in 2018. In two seasons in his role, Bieniemy has overseen the development of QB Patrick Mahomes from a raw college air raid passer into a bonafide MVP.
While Kitchens was an utterly incompetent coach for his young team, there are some who believe the problem stretches beyond just the coaching. Bienemy would have a serious task on his hands if he were to bolt for The Land.
Should the Browns choose to bring in Bieniemy, one has to think their offense could make a leap in 2020 given the legendary work that he has done with Patrick Mahomes.
