Chiefs OL Mitchell Schwartz Says He Doesn’t Blame Dee Ford for Last Year’s Playoff Loss

One storyline regarding Super Bowl LIV's matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs that has flown under the radar is the fact that linebacker Dee Ford will face his former team for the first time since committing a costly penalty in the 2019 AFC Championship Game.
Well, as it turns out, the Chiefs aren't holding any grudges against their former standout defender. Kansas City offensive tackle Mitchell Schwartz was asked about Ford's gaffe, and the 30-year-old vet provided a classy response.

"I don’t blame him at all," said Schwartz via Pro Football Talk. "We scored zero points in the first half, so if we score any points in the first half he’s not in that position at all. Offensively, the kinda view we had was we didn’t do enough offensively to score enough points to win the game... Football is never about the one specific play. I never put that on him."
Like some fans in Arrowhead still do, Schwartz could have pointed the finger in Ford's direction. After all, the linebacker lining up offsides derailed what looked to be a game-sealing interception of Tom Brady.

The game, of course, went to overtime, and New England marched down the field to finish off the Chiefs in stunning fashion.
Schwartz's self awareness and sheer humility cannot be understated and proves that he is one of the NFL's most consummate professionals.
