3 Players Chiefs Can Sign to Replace Bashaud Breeland
By Jerry Trotta
Bashaud Breeland's future with the Kansas City Chiefs is anything but assured following the disturbing report of his arrest on Tuesday night. The 28-year-old cornerback was charged with marijuana possession, driving without a license, carrying an open container of alcohol, and resisting arrest. Not to mention, he's already facing a suspension.
The Chiefs CB has since professed his innocence on Twitter, but it's feasible to assume that his future with the team could be over. Kansas City will likely wait to gather all the facts before making a decision, but it should absolutely be looking at alternatives in the meantime.
Here are three free agents the Chiefs can sign to replace Breeland.
3. Tramon Williams
Finding a long-term CB replacement just isn't a realistic ask this late into the free agency cycle. In term of plug-and-play options, there aren't many better options than Williams, who was ranked as Pro Football Focus' 11th highest-graded CB for his efforts in 2019. At 37 years old, he's susceptible to giving up big plays, but Williams is still strong in coverage.
2. Prince Amukamara
Forget the cornerback position, Amukamara is one of the best overall free agents still available. The 30-year-old vet earned PFF coverage grades above 70 in each of his three seasons with the Chicago Bears. That included a career-high 77.1 tally in 2018. Amukamara isn't a turnover machine -- he's logged just 10 interceptions across his nine-year career -- but his coverage prowess is undeniable.
1. Logan Ryan
Logan has enjoyed a solid career, and his two Super Bowl wins with the Patriots will fit perfectly in Kansas City, who are a perennial championship contender. The 29-year-old was superb for the Titans last season, posting 113 tackles, 18 pass deflections, four interceptions, 4.5 sacks, and four forced fumbles. Logan was everywhere for Tennessee in 2019, and he'd be a welcomed addition to a Chiefs team that's suddenly in need of cornerback help.
