Chiefs Reportedly Not Interested in Jalen Ramsey Trade
By Mark Powell
Jalen Ramsey wants out of Jacksonville, but the Chiefs aren't taking calls.
Despite the obvious connection between Ramsey and Kansas City due to their need for a shutdown cornerback, especially if they want to contend with the likes of the New England Patriots, KC isn't nearly as intrigued with the prospect of adding the former All-Pro as the fanbase might like.
Ramsey does come with some baggage, as he's forcing his way out of Jacksonville just two years after a substantial playoff run, which included a win over the Pittsburgh Steelers and a trip to the AFC Championship Game. Yet, his undeniable talent is often matched by his loud mouth, which overshadows his ability to cover some the league's top receivers.
Perhaps most frustrating about the Chiefs viewpoint on Ramsey is their intent on not paying top dollar for a rental. The Dolphins just fetched a first-round pick for Minkah Fitzpatrick, and while the Alabama product still has three years left on a modest rookie deal, that sets the market.
KC views the looming Chris Jones and Patrick Mahomes deals as reason not to take on another financial investment in Ramsey.
The kind of financial gymnastics needed to take on that kind of cap hit while also ensuring Mahomes never calls anywhere but Arrowhead home is a stress the Chiefs appear to not not want on their radar, for better or worse.
