In life after Kareem Hunt, the Kansas City Chiefs appear to be entering their 2019 season with Damien Williams being the bell cow running back. However, there's been an apparent adjustment on the positional depth chart.

According to Nate Taylor of The Athletic, rookie Darwin Thompson, who was a sixth-round draft pick, "appears to have leaped" veteran Carlos Hyde on the depth chart.

Thompson reportedly split first-team reps with Williams in practices this week, working in front of Hyde. Head coach Andy Reid praised Thompson's "vision in the run game" and "understanding of the pass game."

With Thompson's rise up the rankings, Hyde's chances of making the 53-man roster have significantly decreased.

In his junior season at Utah State, Thompson rushed for 1,044 yards and 14 touchdowns on 153 carries. In the passing game, Thompson recorded 23 catches for 351 yards and two scores.

This preseason, Thompson has rushed for 52 yards on nine carries and caught one ball for 29 yards, which resulted in a touchdown.

While Damien Williams is Kansas City's certified starter at running back for the regular season opener, Darwin Thompson will be a name you'll hear on third-down and passing down situations.
