Chiefs Rule Patrick Mahomes Out for Rest of Thursday Night Game With Knee Injury
By Scott Rogust
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been dealing with an ankle sprain since Week 1 of the season. On Thursday night against the Denver Broncos, Mahomes went down with a nasty right knee injury and walked off the field with help from members of the Chiefs training staff.
Minutes after leaving the field the team ruled Mahomes out for the remainder of the game, painting a gloomy picture of the severity of the injury.
FOX sideline reporter Erin Andrews said during the broadcast that Mahomes entered the X-Ray room at Empower Field at Mile High, and was ruled out after just two minutes of examinations.
Mahomes went for a scramble up the middle, but had his own lineman fall onto his knee, which appeared to twist. As he lay on the turf, medical staff popped his knee back into place. While the team called for a cart, Mahomes powered his way off the field.
Dr. Mark Adickes said upon an initial look, Mahomes may have suffered a patella dislocation. If no surgery is needed, Mahomes can be back in a matter of a few weeks while wearing a brace. However, season-ending surgery is also on the table.
We will continue to keep you posted on Patrick Mahomes status once an update is provided through the team or media.
