This Chiefs-Vikings Trade Involving Sammy Watkins and Anthony Harris Could Actually Work

The Minnesota Vikings might have used their franchise tag on safety Anthony Harris after the former undrafted free agent put up career numbers in 2019, but it remains unlikely he'll be back in Minnesota next season.

Harris has been the subject of trade rumors ever since he was hit with the franchise tag, and a team like the Kansas City Chiefs in need of help on the back end could be a perfect landing spot for the former Virginia Cavaliers star.

Let us explain.

The Chiefs are in the market for some help in the secondary after they lost Kendall Fuller to the Washington Redskins, while the Vikings need a starting wide receiver after they traded Stefon Diggs to the Buffalo Bills. Watkins for Harris straight up could make all this happen in one go.

Yes, it's fair to say that Harris is a much better safety than Watkins is a wide receiver, but front office boss Rick Spielman torpedoed his trade value by only asking for a mid-round pick for a player that by every metric is one of the best defensive backs in all of football right now. This act of self-sabotage could prevent the Chiefs from giving up draft picks in this deal. Minnesota MIGHT ask for a sixth- or seventh-round pick in this deal, but that's not a dealbreaker for KC.

Watkins is a solid deep threat, but he hasn't topped 700 yards receiving in two years with Kansas City. Dumping him for an elite safety in Harris would be a tremendous deal for the reigning Super Bowl champs.
