The Kansas City Chiefs were favorites to repeat as Super Bowl champions before the NFL Draft even took place. A solid draft class was already set to come to town, highlighted by Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and the team got even better once some of the best undrafted free agents came off the board.

To the surprise of no one, the Chiefs landed a top undrafted player on offense in Vanderbilt wide receiver Kalija Lipscomb, who signed a nice guaranteed deal with the team.

So Lipscomb went undrafted, only to sign a $110,000 guaranteed deal with the defending Super Bowl champions. Not a bad consolation after a disappointing draft for the receiver. He is also reunited with his college quarterback, Kyle Shurmur, who was signed by the Chiefs last year.

Lipscomb had 2,356 career receiving yards and 22 touchdowns in four seasons at Vanderbilt. The team struggled during his tenure, and a glance at his stats may have dropped his draft stock. Yet the Chiefs believed in him enough to give him over $100,000, and not getting drafted may have worked out in the receiver's favor.

He stands 6-0 and ran a 4.57 40-yard dash at the combine. That means more speed for the Chiefs, and a chance for Lipscomb to prove to all 31 other teams in the league that they made a huge mistake.
