This Chiefs-Texans Trade for Gareon Conley Could Help Solidify KC's Secondary in Wake of Bashaud Breeland News
By Mark Powell

The NFL Draft has come and gone, and the Chiefs haven't addressed their secondary in a noticeable enough way to silence the noise coming from fans -- we need more help. Yes, the selections of L'Jarius Sneed and Thakarius Keyes will make a moderate impact, but both were taken after the fourth round.
Gareon Conley could provide the answer. The Houston Texans declined the former first-round pick's fifth-year option this week, paving the way for potential trade buzz.
Rather than waiting around for Conley to leave, why not trade him while Houston can still get something in return?

Conley was a 1st round pick of the #Raiders in 2017 and was traded last season to Houston for a 3rd round pick. Despite the costly pick, Bill O'Brien won't pick up his option. pic.twitter.com/2HuNbw6eQu
Conley hasn't lived up to his first-round selection, but he's still a capable cover man. The Chiefs' competition in the AFC West all added capable receivers in the NFL Draft or Free Agency, and Kansas City must answer one way or another, especially if they might be on the verge of a tough decision regarding Bashaud Breeland. The DB was arrested on multiple counts this past week, and is facing a four-game suspension, at the very least.
A fourth-round pick ought to get this deal done, and while that might not sound like much to Texans fans, consider Conley's production has been similar to what a late-round selection would provide at this juncture. Despite his potential, Conley hasn't delivered, with just four interceptions in three seasons.

Conley makes just over $1 million, meaning the Chiefs can find a way to afford him, despite their rough salary cap situation.
Bill O'Brien is just trigger happy enough to make this work.
