Chiefs Want to Trade up for Human Cheat Code Henry Ruggs and That Seems Incredibly Unfair to NFL Defenses
By Mark Powell
Apparently Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins and Mecole Hardman don't account for enough speed to satisfy the Kansas City Chiefs' offensive conquest. Brett Veach wants this group to step up their game, and the addition of another speedster would do just that, and make defending such a wide receiver trio incredibly unfair considering 2018 NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes can make every throw in the book.
Yes, per reports, KC is actively entertaining a trade up in the draft for Alabama burner Henry Ruggs.
Acquiring Ruggs -- who nearly broke the all-time NFL Combine 40-yard dash time -- will require some serious draft capital. Yet, the Chiefs have maintained much of their 2019 Super Bowl roster, so there are few weaknesses (not that we'd describe WR as one, either) for KC to improve upon.
For now, they'd rather add to their embarrassment of riches.
Ruggs is expected to be the third wide receiver selected in 2020's showcase, behind the likes of Jerry Jeudy and CeeDee Lamb. The Chiefs currently own the 32nd overall pick, and would have to trade up into the 12-15 range to secure a chance at Ruggs.
KC owns just five picks in this year's draft, so trading up for Ruggs would severely limit them moving forward. If Veach deems that capital more important than adding to a position of strength, then this rumor will remain hearsay.
Yet the prospect of adding Ruggs to that loaded receiving corps to pair with Damien Williams and Travis Kelce in what was already the most explosive offense in all of football will make Chiefs fans drool all over their world-famous barbecue.
At the very least, it's worth considering.
