3 Bold Predictions for Chiefs-Texans Divisional Round Game
By Jerry Trotta
Sunday's two-game slate of Divisional Round action will kickoff with an absolute doozy as the Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs will battle it out at Arrowhead Stadium.
With young quarterback phenoms Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes pitted against one another, something close to supernatural is bound to materialize with a berth in the AFC Championship on the line. With that in mind, let's dive into a trio of bold prediction for this do-or-die clash.
3. Chris Jones Records 2+ Sacks
With the Chiefs defensive front as healthy as it's been all season, expect them -- particularly star defensive tackle Chris Jones -- to get into Houston's backfield early and often on Sunday. Everybody knows that Watson's most telling flaw is that he holds onto the pigskin for far too long. If he does so against KC, Jones will make him pay with multiple sacks.
2. Patrick Mahomes Throws for 300 Yards and 3 Touchdowns
Houston's D is due for a rude awakening following their narrow escape against the Bills' mundane offense. Led by Andy Reid, the Chiefs take descriptors like "imposing" and "formidable" to an entirely different level. Mahomes will pick apart the Texans secondary with ease on Sunday to the tune of over 300 yards passing and three scores.
1. Both Teams Score Over 25 Points
What the Wild Card Round failed to deliver in terms of barn-burning offensive showcases, this Texans-Chiefs matchup will make up for by itself. We wouldn't be surprised if both sides even breach 30 points. You'll want to be glued to your seats for this game, folks. A trip to the kitchen for more buffalo dip could result in you missing a pivotal scoring play. Don't say we didn't warn you.
