Chiefs Would Be Foolish to Risk Long-Term Injury to Patrick Mahomes

Hearts stopped all over Kansas City last week when star quarterback Patrick Mahomes went down with a dislocated knee. But, if we've learned anything about the young signal caller, it's that he's not human.

Mahomes is already working his way back, and is at practice on Wednesday less than a week after his injury. Wow.

While it's amazing to see him back on the gridiron, the Chiefs need to take their time with their franchise QB. Straight up, there's ZERO reason to try and rush him back early. None whatsoever.

The Chiefs have a Sunday Night Football date with the Packers. While the world would love to see Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers do battle, Matt Moore is expected to start for KC.

The thought is the Chiefs could be without Mahomes for the next three weeks or so. That's perfectly fine. Even if Moore struggles running the offense and KC loses a few games, imagine them trying to get him back next week or the week after and he suffers further damage to that knee. He'd go from missing 3-4 weeks to potentially the rest of the year. No thanks.

Excuse me, Andy Reid? No, there's no way you can risk the rest of the year and even think of letting Mahomes play this weekend. Let him rest, get back to 100 percent and focus on leading this team to the Super Bowl.

A loss in the interim will be meaningless if KC can take home the Lombardi Trophy. It goes without saying, but they need Mahomes at full strength come late January and early February in order for that to happen.
