Chili Davis Takes Shot at Cubs Talking About Experience With Mets
By Sean Facey
The Chicago Cubs' offense struggled under Chili Davis when he was their hitting coach. They put up far too many subpar performances in 2018, which led to the two parties going their separate ways.
Now with the New York Mets, Davis' offense is thriving, and he just couldn't help but take a shot at his former team.
The veteran coach and former slugger said that he feels like he's found "a better fit" with the Mets, and that things have been easier in part because the players on his new team have bought into his system.
Davis' time in Chicago was decidedly more combative. He repeatedly clashed with anyone and everyone in part because his old-school approach directly contradicted what the Cubs wanted out of their offense. He prefers situational hitting, something his old team and many others have scorned.
And now he's ready to leave that all in the past. "I could care less what happens over there right now," said Davis. "I don’t care if they get to the next level or not. That’s not my team. I don’t wear that uniform anymore."
It's easy to see why he wants to move on. Despite the fact that he helped mold some of Chicago's biggest offensive stars into who they are, he took the fall for the team's struggles.
He's in an environment now, though, where he's not constantly at war. Now he's helping guide the young bats on a Mets team hungry for the playoffs.
