Chris Long Calls Out Violent Philly Vigilante for Rocking Eagles Shirt
By Michael Luciano
As Black Lives Matter protests across the country continue to call for police reform, plenty of violent groups of individuals have formed to oppose them. One such group managed to crop up in Philadelphia, as vigilantes, many of whom were armed with bats, gathered at the statue of Christopher Columbus in Columbus Square, eventually assaulting a reporter and slashing his bike tires.
Former Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Chris Long called out one of the vigilantes for wearing an "Underdogs" shirt with Long on the front, demanding he change his attire as soon as possible.
The "Underdog" Eagles were a ragtag plucky group of veterans and young players that never game up and eventually took down the mighty New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. The fact that some Philadelphians want to hide behind that symbol as they spew hateful and violent rhetoric is nothing short of despicable.
Long isn't looking for praise or adulation for doing this, however, as he says having to be forced into attacking people who are so openly and brazenly hateful is "not fun".
Long, a former Walter Payton Man of the Year winner, has gone out of his way to advocate for social justice and police reform in the wake of these protests, and he isn't going to let all the hard work be undone by allowing his image to be used by some hateful protesters with a completely backwards ideology.
