Chris Sale is About to Go a Full Year Without a Regular-Season Win at Fenway Park and That’s Insane

Chris Sale has had an up-and-down season with the Red Sox, but this is downright absurd.

With a no-decision on Wednesday and the team not set to return home until July 12, Boston's ace will have gone a full calendar year since his last regular-season win at Fenway Park on July 11, 2018.

Obviously there are a lot of factors that go into pitcher wins and losses, but that doesn't make it any less eye-popping.

There have been starts where he's been in line for a win such as his 17-strikeout performance against the Rockies only for the bullpen to blow the game because the offense didn't give him enough run support.

His saving grace is the win he earned over the Yankees in Game 1 of the 2018 ALDS. Other than that, he hasn't had much to hang his hat on in terms of his record.

It's just mind-boggling. Sure, a 3.79 home ERA in 2019 isn't much to write home about, but it should be enough for him to earn something.

Instead, he owns an 0-2 record in seven starts at home. The Red Sox average just 3.58 runs of support per game for him and have scored three runs or fewer in seven of his 16 starts this year.

He's bound to win at Fenway again eventually. It'll just have to be for the first time in over a year when they return.
