Clay Matthews Files Grievance Against Rams and LA Looks Extraordinarily Cheap Right Now
By Brady Williams
The Los Angeles Rams have been staring down a financial nightmare this offseason. They somewhat controversially got rid of Todd Gurley, and they have so much money wrapped up in dead cap space that they potentially wouldn't have been able to pay their draft picks were it not for a Jared Goff contract restructure. It seems what's for certain is that they haven't been able to pay their players.
Clay Matthews has filed a grievance claiming that Los Angeles owes him $2 million of guaranteed money.
Matthews spent a single season with the Rams, and he says they need to pay him for the 13 games he played with the team. It's something general manager Les Snead agrees with, but the timing of his payment seems to be an issue.
Snead says that Matthews will definitely earn the money, but the organization is currently adhering to "language in the contract" that outlines the payment timeline.
Matthews and Gurley still aren't having it. They opened up about their displeasure all the way back at the start of April. Now at the end of the month, Matthews is escalating the matter.
Whatever the "language" is that Snead referred to, the Rams aren't coming out of this looking great. It's just a snowball effect with all of the payment issues they're having. They've unbelievably mismanaged their cap situation, and now they're just doing everything they can to put off paying their players.
