Clemson's Backfield Just Got a Huge Vote of Confidence for 2020
By Michael Luciano
Clemson seems like a lock to once again take home the ACC crown and a playoff spot, and they'll get to the promised land on the strength of a running game equalled by few, if any, in all of college football.
Bleacher Report ranked the Tigers' backfield, which features two Heisman candidates in Travis Etienne and Trevor Lawrence, as the best in the country.
Etienne would have likely been the top running back taken in the 2020 NFL Draft given his rare blend of strength and explosion, but he chose to come back to Clemson for one last shot at a second title. When his lethal nature as a runner is paired with that of Lawrence, who proved against Ohio State that he can be a weapon with his legs, the Tigers' ground game might be enough to put away most ACC foes.
At least when Etienne comes out of the game, teams can take a breath, right? Wrong! The Tigers have one of the best backup running baks in the country in Lyn-J Dixon, who has 1,182 yards rushing and an insane 7.1 yards per carry average despite limited playing time.
Clemson is a dominant team in all phases of the game, but their rushing attack might be the least heralded group on the roster. With Etienne and Dixon leading the charge, Clemson should rank near the top of several rushing categories next season.
