Clemson Star Hunter Renfrow Turning Heads at Raiders Camp
By Max Scoli
Hunter Renfrow was a standout wide receiver at Clemson University, and it appears that success is beginning to translate at the NFL level.
According to Scott Blair of NBC Sports, the Oakland Raiders have been "impressed" by the former Tiger so far, noting his "steady improvement" during the offseason. As a result, there is a possibility that the young wideout could start in his rookie year.
Renfrow's 5-foot-10, 184 pound frame doesn't scream "great NFL prospect." In fact, he didn't even have a scholarship when he played at Clemson, earning his time as a walk-on. However, the Raiders still took a chance on him in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, and it seems like the pick is beginning to pay off.
The Clemson Tigers thrived while Renfrow was in the slot, winning two CFP National Championships in 2017 and 2019 during his tenure. Throughout his collegiate career, Renfrow logged 186 receptions, 2,133 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns. He was awarded the Burlsworth Trophy as a senior, an award given to the most outstanding walk-on college football player.
Now, he will have a chance to learn from one of the best wide receivers in the game in Antonio Brown as a member of the Raiders organization.
Whether he can continue to overcome his physical limitations at the next level remains to be seen, but Renfrow hasn't made any excuses for himself yet. He's impressing early on, and he'll look to build off his strong training camp as the preseason comes around.
And of course, we'll all get the chance to see him in action during Hard Knocks, as he may be one of the more intriguing players to keep an eye on throughout the series.
