Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence Announces New Coronavirus Fundraiser After NCAA Inexplicably Shut First One Down
By Jerry Trotta
The NCAA brazenly decided to flex its muscles when it asked Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence to shut down his GoFundMe fundraiser, which was created to raise money for coronavirus relief efforts.
After some fuss over whether or not the gesture involved raising money based on Lawrence's name, image and likeness, the NCAA permitted Clemson to use discretion and that the fundraiser may proceed.
As a result, Lawrence and his girlfriend Marissa Mowry took to Instagram to announce their new plans to help raise money for families affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.
The fund has been labeled the "Trevor Lawrence and Marissa Mowry COVID-19 Relief Fund," and it's being managed by the Cartersville-Bartow Community Foundation.
"Marissa and I have created the Fund to help our friends and neighbors in the Cartersville and Upstate South Carolina communities deal with some of the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 situation," said Lawrence on the charity's website. "We hope others will join us in supporting the many families in need. These are challenging times, and no one should be left behind."
This is a tremendous gesture from Lawrence and Mowry, and we couldn't think of a better way to stick it to the NCAA right now. The fact that the couple's first pledge came as close as it did to being revoked is a joke and we're glad logic has triumphed here.
