Clint Frazier Appears to Have One Last Chance to Show Yankees His Skills Following Judge and Stanton Injuries
By Jack Murphy
The New York Yankees seem to have be bitten by the injury bug once again this spring as doubts arise about the health of their power bats in Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. With the absence of the two sluggers, it opens up conversation about who will step up and produce in the meantime.
Clint Frazier will most likely be one of the options to get significant playing time, but this might be his final chance to impress the Yanks with his bat.
When the Yankees traded for Frazier in 2016, they had high expectations for the promising outfielder. Unfortunately, he hasn't quite lived up to the hype. He was the MLB's 15th-ranked prospect in 2016, but he's hit just .254 in 123 career games and his defense leaves a lot to be desired.
Then again, all the blame cannot be placed on the 25-year-old because he's been the odd man out in a crowded Yankees outfield. Additionally, he dealt with concussion issues that kept him sidelined for a good portion of 2018. That limited him to just 15 games.
However, a valiant effort filling in for Stanton and Judge can erase all of that. Frazier is hitting extremely well this Spring as he has a slash line of .300/.529/.800. He's doing everything he can to earn his spot on the 25-man roster.
If Frazier can bring that hot bat into the regular season and make Yankee fans forget (for the most part) that Judge and Stanton are on the shelf, he could find himself earning more playing time even when they return.
