Clint Frazier Speaks Out About Being Stuck in Scranton
By Ryan Giglio
As Michael Scott, regional manager of Dunder Mifflin Scranton, once said: "Ain't no party like a Scranton party, 'cause a Scranton party don't stop!"
So shouldn't Clint Frazier be happy playing for the Yankees' Triple-A team in Scranton, PA?
Alright, maybe that's a little silly.
Frazier is doing everything he can to get back to the first-place Yankees and stay there. That includes working on his defense and maturity, after both were causes for concern earlier in the year.
In his first public comments regarding his stint in the minors, Frazier said that he and general manager had a phone call weeks after his demotion. In the phone call, a "brutally honest” Cashman laid out everything Frazier needed to do to get called back up.
Frazier seems to be working hard and making strides on his defense while in Triple-A. Earlier this week, he made a diving catch and later threw a runner out at home.
Frazier also seems to have matured at least little bit in Scranton, taking accountability for where he is.
“I can’t be mad about my situation,” Frazier said. “Ultimately, I put myself here.”
The Yankees' front office and fans will surely love to hear this from Frazier, who lacked accountability for his defensive woes in June.
His bat is no-doubt major league ready, but the concerns about his make-up and defense are serious enough that Frazier was not only demoted, but has been passed by as an option for promotion despite a plethora of injuries to the Yankee outfield.
It looks as if Frazier will be a September call-up, but whenever he is eventually promoted, he will need to prove he's ready to stay.
