This Clippers-Bulls Trade for Thaddeus Young Could Actually Work
By Jerry Trotta
Though they've remained silent thus far, the Los Angeles Clippers are starting to make rumblings as it pertains to being linked with a number of players ahead of Thursday's trade deadline.
The most recent name the Clips have reportedly inquired about is Chicago Bulls veteran forward Thaddeus Young. Los Angeles, as we know, is showered with depth, meaning the team boast the assets to formulate a trade package that would entice the Bulls.
But what players should be included in any potential deal?
Thaddeus Young Contract Details
Lucky for the Clippers, Young is currently playing on a fairly team-friendly deal. He signed a three-year, $41 million contract with Chicago last offseason.
He's owed $12.9 million this season and $13.5 mil next year. His $14.1 salary for the 2021-2022 campaign might seem pricy, but only $6 mil of that sum is guaranteed.
Thaddeus Young-Clippers Trade Scenario
Given Young's relatively cheap contract, the Clippers could easily package the likes of athletic slasher Maurice (Moe) Harkless, who will make less than $12 mil this season, and guard Jerome Robinson, who is still on his rookie contract, in a deal.
If the Bulls don't find themselves enamored with that package, perhaps Los Angeles can compromise by throwing in a future second-round draft pick.
Young, 31, is averaging 9.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game on 44% shooting from the field and 34% on threes. Those numbers don't inspire a ton of confidence, but his tenacious defense and veteran leadership would provide significant value off Doc Rivers' otherwise youthful bench.
