VIDEO: Colin Cowherd Says Eagles QB Carson Wentz is the New Russell Wilson
By Emily Adams
Philadelphia Eagles fans have had sky-high hopes for franchise quarterback Carson Wentz since the Birds drafted him in 2016. He's been an impressive NFL performer, but Colin Cowherd is taking things to the next level -- as usual -- in a way that's sure to inflame the faithful out in the Pacific Northwest.
Wentz definitely deserves more love than he gets, but there is no real comparison between him and Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson quite yet. Wilson is a Super Bowl champion and a six-time Pro Bowl selection that has proven to be relentlessly durable; Wentz has only managed to play in one playoff game in the last four seasons and has a reputation for injury issues.
Cowherd is giving himself a lot of credit for spotting quarterback talent, claiming that he knew how good Wilson was going to be "three or four years ago," which, even at the time, was not a hot take given the Seahawks' Super Bowl title in the 2013 season.
Putting the sensational comparisons aside, Cowherd makes some decent points. Wentz has excellent athleticism, and his offensive weapons, especially last season, were barely removed from the Eagles' practice squad. During Philly's 2017 Super Bowl season, Wentz was shaping up to be complete stud and earned the Bert Bell Player of the Year Award without playing a single playoff game, and while he has the potential to take the Eagles on a world championship run himself, he's just not there yet.
And he's certainly no Wilson.
He has a long way to go and a lot to prove before he's considered one of the best in the game. That's just the way of things in the NFL.
