College Football Playoff Bowl Games
By Michael Luciano
The College Football Playoff semifinals will kick off in a week and a half, and the field of four is even more jam-packed than in prior years, as three of the teams in the 2019 tournament had at least one Heisman finalist, while the one without a Heisman finalist is the defending national champs. Every year, a different pair of bowls get featured in the CFP and, well...we've got two very lucky bowls this year.
Peach Bowl: No. 4 Oklahoma vs No. 1 LSU
Lincoln Riley, Jalen Hurts, and the Sooners snuck in after they beat Baylor in a tight Big 12 Championship game.
Ed Orgeron and the Tigers rode a legendary season from quarterback Joe Burrow to the No. 1 overall ranking, but they have All-Americans on both sides of the ball thanks to Derek Stingley and Grant Delpit.
Fiesta Bowl: No. 3 Clemson vs No. 2 Ohio State
Trevor Lawrence, Dabo Swinney, and the Tigers started off the year as the No. 1 team in the country after crushing Alabama in last year's title game, but fell to No. 3 as the committee took the strength, or lack thereof, of the ACC into account. That didn't stop Clemson from putting together a dominant season that earned them another playoff berth.
Ryan Day and the Buckeyes, the undefeated champions of the Big Ten, are led by two of the four Heisman finalists in 50-touchdown quarterback Justin Fields and nearly unblockable defensive end Chase Young.
The committee seems to have gotten it right this year, as the four best teams and arguably four best quarterbacks all made it into the playoff. Only time will tell who will carve their name into college football history when they take home the title.
