The College Football Playoff Committee Finally Got it Right With Latest Rankings
By Sean Facey
The College Football Playoff selection committee is always subject to scrutiny, and they have taken their fair share of criticism for the teams they've placed in the semifinals in the past.
But this season, and in particular this weekend, they finally got things right.
They rightfully picked the Oklahoma Sooners to be the No. 4 seed after they took care of business in the Big 12 Championship game. They didn't punish them too harshly for their loss to Kansas State, but they made sure that they proved themselves on their road back to the top.
Additionally, they made the right decision to have LSU sneak ahead of Ohio State for the top spot. The Tigers handled their game against Georgia, and they were rightfully rewarded for it. Meanwhile, the Buckeyes struggled in the first half against Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship. Recency bias wins again, although LSU's schedule remains one of the best in the country.
Despite a rather weak schedule, Clemson was shown respect for their absurd dominance this year.
And of course, there was no Alabama bias in sight this year.
The final rankings show that they were measured in their analysis. Each of the teams that made the playoff earned their right to be there, and they're all exactly in the spot they should be.
It's a breath of fresh air. There are no quarrels to be had about whether or not certain teams deserved to make it.
The committee accurately selected the four best teams in the country, seeded them correctly, and now we get to watch them duke it out for a national title. It doesn't get much better than that.
