College Football Playoff Predictions Ahead of Week 4
By Parker White
Plenty of top-tier college football programs haven't played any opponents of substance just yet, but the season is starting to heat up and some teams out there look like they're destined to play in the College Football Playoff. While there's still a ton of season left, a group of teams have stood out above the rest. Heading into Week 4, here's a prediction of what the College Football Playoff would look like come this winter:
4. Ohio State
I know LSU defeated a top-10 Texas Longhorns team, but have you seen Ohio State play over the first three weeks? They slaughtered what was believed to be a decent Cincinnati team, 42-0, and they turned around and blew out Indiana, 51-10. Quarterback Justin Fields looks like the real deal, and their defense has a bunch of grown men on it. If they keep this up, Ohio State won't be squeaking in at the fourth spot.
3. Georgia
This is the team that could be in a different spot come next week, as Georgia will get their first true test of the season against No. 7 Notre Dame. They need to win this game to stay in the playoff hunt, and with the dominance they've displayed the first three weeks, it's not that far-fetched to think they'll run the Fighting Irish out of Athens. Should they dominate this one, the committee sure won't forget about it.
2. Alabama
For some, Alabama is the No. 1 team in college football. You can understand that given the talent littered all over this roster, and the fact they've beaten the first three teams on their schedule by an average of 38 points. But for now, they'll stay in the second spot. Guys like Tua Tagovailoa and Najee Harris have this team looking poised to make another run at a National Title. After last season's loss to Clemson in the final, Nick Saban and Co. sure feel like they have something to prove.
1. Clemson
The Clemson Tigers entered the season as the top team in college football, and they haven't done anything to make you think differently. The Tigers are coming off a blowout win on the road against Syracuse, 41-6. Another one is on the horizon, as they face Charlotte this week. They've beaten two ACC teams and the 12th-ranked Texas A&M Aggies, so I'd say they are comfortably in the No. 1 spot. Trevor Lawrence is the real deal, while Dabo Swinney's defense continues to be dominant. Unless something drastic happens, Clemson will be back in the CFP.
