The Colts Are One Move Away From Winning the NFL Offseason
The biggest move of the offseason for the Indianapolis Colts was signing veteran quarterback Philip Rivers to a one-year, $25 million deal. General manager Chris Ballard also drafted wide receiver Michael Pittman and running back Jonathan Taylor to add talent around Rivers.
Yet, there's one more move that could be made on offense to give Rivers and the Colts the best chance to succeed. Signing Larry Warford and making him the starting right guard is what this team needs to do to put an exclamation point on the offseason.
Warford was surprisingly let go by the New Orleans Saints and is a Pro Bowl right guard just sitting on the open market. The Colts already have one dominant guard in Quenton Nelson, who plays on the left side. The right guard spot is held down by Mark Glowinski. He started all 16 games there in 2019 and has a $6.9 million cap hit in 2020. But the team can save $4 million by letting Glowinski go and invest a little extra cash in Warford to construct arguably the best offensive line in football.
Or maybe they can trade Glowinski for a favorable draft pick or a playmaker on the defensive side of the ball. That'll give them an opportunity to make two favorable transactions here.
Indianapolis should be better on offense with Rivers running the show, and a duo of Warford and Nelson at the guard positions would vastly improve all facets of the rushing and passing games.
