The Indianapolis Colts are looking far and wide for a quarterback help to offset the loss of Andrew Luck on the depth chart, but the guy they decided to take a look at as a possible backup for Jacoby Brissett almost makes the entire situation more depressing.

Per Field Yates, the Colts hosted former Broncos gunslinger Brock Osweiler for a visit on Tuesday.

It would truly be a disappointment for the Colts to go from safely rostering Andrew Luck at starter with a strong backup in Jacoby Brissett, all the way to having Osweiler as their next man up in case of injury.

The former Broncos' upstart has bounced around from team to team over the last few years, serving stints in Houston and Miami. Since the start of the 2016 season, he's thrown for 5,292 yards in 28 games, playing to the tune of a disappointing 75.1 passer rating. He has 36 touchdown passes to 31 interceptions in his career.

He's no knight in shining armor, that's for sure. His career has been on a downward spiral ever since he signed a massive four-year, $72 million deal with the Texans. Still, he's shown the ability to win games in the past, and what more can the Colts truly ask for from a last-resort quarterback?

It's a fall from grace for both parties, and while the Colts have no choice but to explore all their options. Still, it remains to be seen whether Osweiler would even be able to beat out former Ole Miss standout Chad Kelly for the backup role.
