This Colts-Dolphins Draft Day Trade Would Get Indy to Recoup First-Round Pick
By Michael Luciano
The Indianapolis Colts have built one of the deepest rosters in the AFC thanks to some excellent drafting from GM Chris Ballard over the last two years.
Frank Reich and the Colts face the daunting challenge of bolstering this team with out a first-round pick in the 2020 draft after trading their selection to the San Francisco 49ers to acquire star defensive tackle DeForest Buckner.
But Indianapolis owns pick No. 34 from a 2019 draft trade with the Washington Redskins in addition to pick No. 44. Giving away one of those and a late-rounder to the Miami Dolphins should be enough to convince them to part ways with pick No. 26 overall in the draft.
With plenty of top talent poised to slip into the late 20s due to an expected run on quarterbacks, the late first round could be the place for Indy to select a game-changer.
With Philip Rivers at quarterback, Indianapolis has enough pieces to win a wide open AFC South provided that a few major holes, like wide receiver, tight end, and cornerback get plugged up in the draft. Trading into the first round to land one of "their guys" might be the difference between a Wild Card berth and spending the playoffs at home on the couch.
