Colts Drafting Jacob Eason Should Set Wheels in Motion for Potential Jacoby Brissett Trade to Patriots

Former Washington quarterback Jacob Eason probably didn't think he would have to wait to hear his name called in the 2020 NFL Draft beyond the 120th pick, but he fell into an ideal situation with the Indianapolis Colts.

With Philip Rivers signed to a one-year deal, it looks as though the Colts have tabbed Eason as their potential QB of the future.

In other words, Jacoby Brissett, who started 15 games last season, could become the subject of trade talks before long. You can't help but feel that the New England Patriots will soon -- if they haven't already -- begin inquiring about the 27-year-old.

Of course, Brisset was drafted by the Patriots in the third round back in 2016. Though Bill Belichick took a shine to the NC State product, there was never a realistic path (outside of injury) for him into the first team.

However, with Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo no longer in the fold, it would make sense for New England to pursue a reunion with Brissett.

As much as the Patriots think they believe in Jarrett Stidham, we seriously doubt that they plan to roll with him as their starting quarterback next season.

Don't be surprised if buzz surrounding a potential Colts-Patriots trade for Brissett heats up in the coming weeks following this Eason pick. The groundwork has certainly been laid.
