This Colts-Eagles Trade for TY Hilton Would Save Philly's Wide Receiving Corps
Has anyone taken a moment to realize Indianapolis Colts wide receiver TY Hilton is entering a contract year with noodle arm Philip Rivers as his new quarterback? Hilton is one of the best deep threats in the game and he won't have a QB capable of throwing him bombs down the field.
On top of that, honestly, what is this Colts team trying to do? Rivers doesn't exactly make them feared AFC contenders despite the rest of the roster being balanced. Although they traded their first-round draft pick to the San Francisco 49ers for DeForest Buckner, Indy still has two early second-round picks they can package to move back up into the first to potentially select a top wide receiver.
Or, they could trade Hilton, who is set to make $14.5 million in 2020, to the Philadelphia Eagles, and arm themselves with more assets. After all, Philly was interested in acquiring him just a few years back.
Sure, this might go against whatever the Colts are trying to do in 2020, but perhaps being realistic is the smartest decision. If Hilton isn't signing an extension, there's no need to keep him around. The Chiefs are king of the AFC and there's no changing that. And the Colts might not even be the best team in their division!
Send Hilton to Philly for the Eagles' second-rounder (No. 53 overall) and then you have Nos. 34, 44 and 53. Package a combination of those to trade into the top 20 and get yourself another stud to help build for the future.
As for the Eagles, they can still take Justin Jefferson with their first-rounder, grab Hilton and ink him to an extension, and then spend their remaining picks rounding out depth across the roster while looking for someone to take Alshon Jeffery off their hands.
It's important for the Eagles to cash in on Carson Wentz's upcoming prime, and acquiring Hilton to give the Colts more assets to build for the future is that move.
