Comparing Jamie Newman to Justin Fields is a Dangerous Game for Georgia Fans
By Mark Powell

Jamie Newman is an exceptional athlete and all but guaranteed to take the Georgia offense to new heights, in part because he brings talents to the equation that Kirby Smart has not had in previous years.
The former Wake Forest Demon Deacon is electric in the open field and solid enough as a passer to make defenses pay when they over-commit. All of this is true, but he's also a cautionary tale.
Jamie Newman hype reaching incredible heights this offseason. He completed 6 of 14 passes for 41 yards and 2 interceptions against Clemson’s defense last season.

Justin Fields completed 30 of 46 passes for 320 yards with 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions against Clemson. https://t.co/fYVBJ8xxjJ
Newman is not the next Justin Fields, and comparing the two is a tricky situation given their play-styles and the simple fact that the latter has proven his talents against major competition, while the former beat up a dreadful ACC and struggled against the likes of Clemson. Fields, a former No. 1 overall recruit, is rightfully considered among the best QBs in the nation, and a potential top draft pick in a year or two.
Newman, meanwhile, has a long way to go.
Does Georgia's offense have to change to accommodate new QB Jamie Newman? https://t.co/8sxrZUqk2v

If Newman were as talented as Fields, Georgia would not have to accommodate him. As things currently stand, the Dawgs long offseason might work in Newman's favor as Todd Monken has extra time to figure out a way to mesh these two styles of play.
Newman has the potential to be the best QB in an SEC East that includes Kyle Trask and Terry Wilson, among others. He is not a national power and Heisman threat like Fields...at least not yet.
