The New York Yankees' well-publicized policy that bars facial hair on their players, except for mustaches, has been around for 47 years and doesn't seem to be going away anytime soon.
Naturally, during the offseason, the team's players like to exercise the short freedom that they have to grow whatever facial hair they want to, and a Yankees fan on Twitter decided to make a thread documenting all this illicit growth. Impressively, these players are somewhat unrecognizable from how they look in-season.

And yes, this thread really goes DEEP to unearth as many weird beards as possible.
2018 MVP Giancarlo Stanton used to have a mini-goatee when he played for the Marlins, but has most recently been spotted wearing a full beard.
Center fielder Aaron Hicks rocked a clean beard back when he played for the Twins, so there really is no surprise that he grows a beard out for the offseason, too.
Young second baseman Gleyber Torres has decided to rock the goatee look, and he looks eerily similar to Phoenix Suns guard and NBA superstar Devin Booker.
Where else to begin but with my king, Gleyber Torres? Gleyber has consistently rocked a goatee during the offseason. His appearance at a recent Nets game confirmed that he’s going for the Gley-tee again this year. There’s even a whole account dedicated to the look @GOATeeGleyber pic.twitter.com/LfATUINews

Third baseman Miguel Andujar recently did a Calvin Klein photoshoot, so its pretty easy to see that he's been wearing a goatee this offseason.
The Yankees' $324 million man in Gerrit Cole went clean-shaven during his press conference and unveiling as a player, but has recently grown the beard back out to "Astros" length.
Gerrit Cole. How else could you start off the pitching staff? This one’s obvious. The Cole Train is a Beard Guy™ through and through. He even said so at his press conference, as shaving for it resulted in his first razorburn in years. He grew the beard right back out afterwards. pic.twitter.com/SArEYZyUWX

Lastly is pitcher James Paxton. During his time in the Pacific Northwest for the Seattle Mariners, Paxton would wear a full beard, and this offseason is no different. The Big Maple has grown his beard all the way out, as seen while he chugged a beer at a Vancouver Canucks game.
Gerrit Cole will have someone to ask for advice about the clean-shaven life. James Paxton is another certified Beard Guy™ who’s had to shave for the Yanks. We really got to see Big Maple’s beard in action when he chugged a beer like an absolute badass at a recent Canucks game. pic.twitter.com/e9o0MITMkg

It seems that Yankees players love growing out facial hair during the offseason, but we all know how much New York loves their traditions.
