Conor McGregor Accuses Khabib of 'Scurrying' to Russia to Avoid Tony Ferguson Fight
By Evan Wolff
The recent news of Khabib Nurmagomedov announcing he is stuck in Russia and therefore nable to fight at UFC 249 has drawn the attention of the MMA world. His intended opponent, Tony Ferguson, has accused the lightweight champ of ducking him, while Khabib himself has adamantly argued that he is powerless to fix the situation given the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Now, Khabib nemesis Conor McGregor has decided to jump in on the criticism. The Irish superstar, who lost to Khabib in a wild UFC title fight back in 2018, has sided with Ferguson in the dispute, insistsing that the champ is using any excuse to avoid having to fight. In a series of tweets, McGregor claimed that his former adversary "scurried" away and therefore isn't a true champion.
In typical Conor style, he made sure to point out that both fighters haven't exactly been convincing in their apparent desire to fight one another. In fairness, this matchup simply feels cursed, with Khabib vs. Tony having been cancelled or postponed now on five separate occasions.
Conor went on to stay that he wouldn't have acted like Khabib in the same situation, and that when you commit to a fight, you must follow through no matter what.
It's just yet another chapter in the ongoing rivalry between Khabib and McGregor that has no obvious end in sight. This time, however, Conor is firmly on the offensive. As long as mixed martial arts is on hold, Khabib is going to keep taking flak even if his position is entirely justified. Such is life in the unrelenting fight game.
