This Cowboys-49ers Trade for Marquise Goodwin Could Actually Work
The San Francisco 49ers are looking to make some changes this offseason and several notable players could be traded during this week's NFL Draft. One player in particular who has come up in rumors is wide receiver Marquise Goodwin.
His 2019 season came to a disappointing end after nine games due to injuries. And as it stands right now, Goodwin has the highest cap hit of any 49ers receiver in 2020 at $4.9 million. Back-to-back lackluster seasons has the 49ers ready to move on and a team could jump in for a low cost to give Goodwin another chance in the hopes he can replicate his 962-yard 2017 season.
The Dallas Cowboys should have interest in acquiring Goodwin. The team is thin at receiver after Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup. Goodwin is under contract through 2021 and even has a dead cap value of only $625,000 in 2021 if things don't work out.
The 49ers want to move on and Dallas should be able to pry him away for a fifth-round pick. The Cowboys have two-fifth rounders and sending one to San Francisco would be negligible for Goodwin in return. This adds some more depth to an offense that has lost both Randall Cobb and Jason Witten this offseason.
Adding Goodwin would not make Cowboys fans jump with joy. Yet it would be a nice addition and the team can continue to focus on receiver with one of their other six picks.
