NFL Insider Predicts Cowboys' Byron Jones Will Become League's Highest-Paid Cornerback
By Sean Facey
This NFL offseason will definitely be one for the ages. The free agent class is absolutely stacked at practically every position and is headlined by the likes of Tom Brady, Jadeveon Clowney and AJ Green.
But one of the lesser talked about players available is defensive back Byron Jones, who is projected by NFL insider Sheil Kapadia to sign a deal that would make him the highest-paid player at his position in the entire league.
The record contract for a cornerback is held by Miami Dolphins star Xavien Howard, who signed a five-year, $75.25 million deal with the team prior to the 2019 season.
And Jones is certainly deserving of a hefty payday. He's one of the most athletically gifted defensive backs in all of football.
He's also made some strong contributions to the Cowboys' defense in his five-year stretch in Dallas. Since 2015, Jones has played in 79 games, amassing two interceptions and 43 passes defensed while splitting time between cornerback and safety.
Any team in need of a hybrid defensive back better line up because Jones will be commanding a ton of interest in about a month.
