Dak Prescott's Contract Situation Won't Get Settled Until the Chiefs Give Patrick Mahomes His Megadeal

Two of the best young quarterbacks in all of football are in need of new contracts, but the Super Bowl champion and league MVP might need to get his deal done first.

While the Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott are still haggling over a contract despite the fact Dallas is (reportedly) willing to make him the highest-paid quarterback in football on a yearly basis, Dak might be waiting to see what a deal for Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes looks like before he puts pen to paper.

Mahomes will undoubtedly set the record for quarterback contracts, even if deal pays him less than the absurd $50 million per year some have suggested. Dak will need to see exactly what Mahomes gets before he digs his foot into the ground and insists on a value.

Prescott will not get a deal of equal value to Mahomes', but he could be in for a much bigger payday if Brett Veach decides to give an arm and a leg for his Super Bowl MVP franchise guy. That delay in setting the going rate for young franchise passers is likely what's stalling contract talks with both of these players, especially Prescott.

Cowboys fans desperate to lock up their promising quarterback might need to wait until Mahomes secures his monumental bag that blows all other contracts out of the water. Then, and only then, will Prescott get a better idea in terms of average annual value and length, which will hopefully end this stalemate.
