Cowboys Should Absolutely Ditch Dak Prescott for Tua Tagovailoa if Given the Chance

The Miami Dolphins and, potentially, the Detroit Lions are locked in on selecting Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in the top five of the 2020 NFL Draft. However, that doesn't mean that the Hawaiian quarterback should start looking at houses in Coral Gables or Royal Oak just yet.

Tagovailoa said that he would choose to play for Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys if given his pick of teams, which could be a signal that he wants Jones to move up from pick No. 17 to pick No. 3 or No. 5.

Tagovailoa is either the No. 2 or No. 3 quarterback in this draft, depending on who you talk to and how polished a prospect you think Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert is.

If the Cowboys decided to give Miami or Detroit whatever they wanted in terms of draft capital, the Cowboys could afford to keep players like Amari Cooper and Byron Jones thanks to the fact that they don't have to give Dak Prescott any sort of albatross contract. This move could extend the Cowboys' championship window if Tua is everything we think he is as a passer.

If Dak is intent on not re-signing while he looks for a bigger contract elsewhere, and Jones can re-ignite that cavalier spirit that made the Cowboys unbeatable in the 90s, mortgaging the future for Tua could be just what the doctor ordered.
