Tua Tagovailoa Brings His Dogs Into the Equation in Latest Attempt to Be Drafted by Cowboys
By Will Coleman
NFL quarterback prospect Tua Tagovailoa hasn't been cleared to resume football workouts and related activities yet, but that's not keeping him away from this week's Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
A consensus top-three quarterback in this year's draft class, the Alabama superstar didn't shy away from the opportunity to speak with team personnel and media at the Combine. After going on the record last week saying he'd play for the Dallas Cowboys if given the choice, the left-handed quarterback continued to push that narrative this morning in Indianapolis.
Not only did Tagovailoa grow up a Cowboys fan, he also named his two dogs, Star and Dallas, after the team's logo and home. The Crimson Tide gunslinger reiterated he'd be thankful for any opportunity to play at the next level, though the idea of Dallas finding a way to draft Tua notably isn't as far-fetched as it seems.
The Dolphins and Lions appear to be favorites to land Tagovailoa with a top-five pick, but what's keeping the Cowboys from trading up to snag him? There's no guarantee that Jerry Jones is willing to pay the price to bring Dak Prescott back on a long-term extension, and Dallas has the assets to make a big move in the draft.
Given his injury history and ongoing recovery from a disloacted hip, Tua even suggested he'd be willing to learn under Prescott for a season as he gets back to full health. There's an outside shot Dallas has the guts to trade up for Tagovailoa, but you can never underestimate the chance of a stunning draft day trade.
