Hall of Fame RB Emmitt Smith’s Son Commits to Stanford
By Michael Luciano
Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith, the NFL's all-time leading rusher, had plenty of time in the spotlight. But Emmitt Smith Jr. has next, and the star running back at Dallas' Jesuit HS has made his college decision.
Smith Jr., also known as "EJ", will join David Shaw and Stanford over several big SEC schools.
Ohio State appeared to be in the lead for Smith early in his recruiting process, but Texas A&M, Dad's alma mater Florida, and Stanford emerged as EJ's top three choices, with the Cardinal eventually winning out, even after a poor season.
Smith believes he is destined for greatness just like his dad was, and the Cardinal's smashmouth style of football seems like the perfect system for Smith to blossom early in his career.
Smith might be playing running back and wearing No. 22 just like his dad, but he'll try to make a name for himself in the Pac-12 rather than follow in his father's footsteps.
It remains to be seen if he'll run for 18,355 yards or 164 touchdowns in the pros, but you have to start somewhere, and Palo Alto is ideal for EJ.
